The airport of Madrid-Barajas, LEMD, has gone through an extensive transformation which is operating partially now, and will be fully operational in 2006 with the opening of the new terminals.The old runway 36R-18L was closed, and two new 3500 m. runways have been built, a new 36R-18L, and a new 15L-33R. Not only that, but two impressive new buildings have been built, the terminal 4 and its satellite building, more than one kilometer long each and linked by an underground trainline. Both with associated aprons for more than 100 planes, 64 of them with fingers. The new airport has a capacity to serve 70 million passengers per year!By Joaquin & Miguel Zafra, Madrid, Spain
